Larry Pattis is a contemporary fingerstyle guitarist described by Fingerstyle Guitar magazine as a "gifted writer and acoustic guitarist. " Larry's style has been compared to that of Ed Gerhard, El McMeen and is influenced by legendary DADGAD guitarist Pierre Bensusan. In fact, Bensusan himself has described Larry's debut CD, Random Chance, as "candid and sincere." Samples of Larry's music are available at his web site. In 1998, Larry had a chance to play one of Jim Chelsvig's first guitars and he posted some positive comments on the rec.music.makers.guitar.acoustic (RMMGA) newsgroup. Largely as a result of Larry's posting, Jim subsequently received a lot of inquiries and he decided that he would offer to build Larry a guitar. Jim's "Larry Pattis Signature Model" prototype is based on a couple of guitars that Bozo Podunavac built for Larry. The Pattis model has a slightly smaller body that the Chelsvig full-size, a narrower waist, and is a little deeper. It has a Florentine cutaway and a Martin scale (25.4 inches). It also has an asymmetrical neck that is wider to the treble side. This feature was included to accommodate a vibrato technique that Larry uses in his playing. Larry reaction to the guitar? "The result (the guitar!) is tremendous" Larry wrote in RMMGA on May 16 2000. He's also been overheard to say "It's absolutely the best sounding guitar I have ever played."
