Hey, I want to introduce Leo's music to a friend, who plays traditional Appalacian Mt tunes on a dulcimer and slide dobro. So I wanted a list of Leo's traditional tunes (like Cripple Creek) and some of his best slide tunes. And maybe a couple of his best 12 string tunes. I know, hard to choose. (My personal favorite of all his tunes is Owls). Thanks in advance

I don't know why I waste my time posting messages here because, obviously, nobody else visits but, just in case . . . Leo will be playing, at my suggestion, in my home town, Tarrytown, NY on Friday, April 18th at the Music Hall.

I volunteered at the Clearwater Festival in Croton, NY which was started by Pete Seeger. Mr. K. was one of the 1-hour performers on Saturday, June 16th. He seemed so at home and played a Pete Seeger song while Pete Seeger was there watching. What a great moment.

What is wrong with Leo. I just saw his worst show in 30 years. He played nothing that was fast and hard. he talked and sang (and I like his voice most of the time; Greenhouse is my favorite album) for over half his set. For someone who has always been known for his clean playing; he was very sloppy. He never did get his 12 string in tune and had a hell of a time keeping the six string in tune. Is it age, tunnel carpel, or something more serious.

I'm just wondering how much interest there might be out there for a Leo Kottke club. It seems many fingerpickers, like myself, have a particular obsession with Kottke's repertoire. I'd be into arranging a once a month picking session somewhere in the New York area. Or does something like this already exist?

If you haven't already, you might also want to try joining this website's mailing list (send a blank email to kottkenews-subscribe@guitarmusic.org). There might be some guitarists on this list in your area. |

Saw Leo last Friday, Leo was really on his game & had everyone busting a gut with his stories. He did a lot of tunes that he doesn't normally do (Julie's House)which was great. It was a really good crowd that really seemed to appreciate Leo!

Just got done editing some tracks from two compilations. Noticed how poorly the Capitol years reissues have come out. I have most of them but have had trouble tracking down a copy of Ice Water on CD. My LP is in poor shape. Even the Takoma LP is hard to find on CD, I no longer play the CD in the car but a copy I made. Happy to see the DVD come out, still have the VHS tape as well. Leo has not come around here for a while, so I made my kids, 12 and 15, watch the DVD. Though I don't knwo if they are quite into music of this sort. The 12 year is taking guitar lessons.

I guess there's no one out there who's even tried 'Whip' or if they have they are keeping it their secret! Has anyone mastered the transcription of Cherry County recently published in Acoustic Guitar magazine.'cause I've found it somewhat reluctant!

I've been struggling to master Leo's music for what seems like centuries, however just like Leo's stuff, Mike Gordon's Whip is beginning to seem difficult although sounding really simple!

Anyone know of professional or amateur tab for "The Late Zone"? Going to see a Leo concert for the first time at the Narrows in New Bedford, MA 10/07 - cant wait!

Webmaster comment:
Check out http://www.tabpigs.org, there should be an amateur tab there. No professional tab is available for this tune.

Anybody know if there is an email address or even postal address where I could send a message to LK? I've seen him live 6 times over a 32 year period and have tickets again for Sept. 8th here in Athens, GA. It occurs to me that many of his shows are populated by folks like me (and you I suspect) and it would be fun if each show he polled the crowd to find the person who had been to see him the most times, then perhaps take a request from them. I'd like to suggest such a thing to Leo. Think he would do it?

Leo has an email address but doesn't want it shared. Postal address? Probably his management would be best, address is on guitarmusic.org (search for "management").

Comment on Jerry Call's entry: It is great that you were able to tell Leo how great his music is...I met him last fall and I was speechless for the most part, but what you said was well stated! We're planning to travel to KY to see him in June, for our 4th Leo show. Seeing Leo live is so amazing, thanks Leo!

Leo was the guitarist that got me into the 12-string guitar many years ago!! I wonder if anyone knows what pickup Leo is using these days? I've read somewhere that he has switched to L.R Baggs..

It was about 1970, I was driving home from work listening kfml in Denver you remember back when fm radio stations actually played good music. I heard acoustic guitar music like i had never heard before, I had to pull my car over to the side of the road and just listen. What I was listening to was "Circle 'Round the Sun", I didnt know that at the time, so.. I bought "Mudlark" instead, , that's when it all started, been a huge fan ever since. Thanks,Leo.
