Entries for October 1996 - May 1997

I have been a fan of Leo's since the 70's and honestly cannot count the number of times I have seen him.
(Probably numbers in the 20's). Most memorable was a concert at the Universal Amphitheater in L.A.; he
shared the bill with Michael Hedges. This was truly guitar-player heaven! A few years prior to that I
had the privelege of meeting Leo at the Coach House in San Juan Capistrano. He pulled up to the venue
well before starting time (and I, the dutiful fan was the only one in line). As he got out of his car
I approached and said, "Has anyone ever told you what a great guitar player you are?" (typical stupid-
fan question). He replied, "Not lately.... and not often enough!".
Anyway, he was a sincere gentleman and truly responsive to my conversation. After the show he submitted
to some fairly technical questions regarding some of the tunings he uses.
He is a musician who truly deserves all the recognition he gets.

This is a great site!!!

I caught the Kottke/DeMent show last Saturday in Madison, and I believe his playing eclipsed his 1979 show at the Union Theater, as the finest show I have seen. My only complaint is as a double bill Leo didn't play long enough for my taste, even with 2 encores. My 14 year old son has a new guitar hero. We got to here "Peckerwood" and "Accordion Bells" both unrecorded, as well as a duet with DeMent. If you are anywhere near one of these shows I highly recommend attendance.
On another note; I am looking for a copy of "12 String Blues" (like a lot of people), please email if you have a copy you would be willing to sell.

I just saw Leo for the first time last night in Madison! =-)
When I asked my mom to watch the kids because we wanted to go to a concert,
she was heitant until I told her who it was. She remembers Leo from when he was on
the Prairie Home Companion. (Anyone remmber that?) My little brother who is 14 also
knew of Leo and was jealous that he couldn't go. The big question is about his family.
My mother wanted me to find out last night about his family history. Unfortunately we
weren't able to talk to him after the show. My grandmother was a Kottke and her
grandfather's names was William who came over on a boat from Germany. Is there anyone
out there that has family history on Leo? My brother and Mother were very disappointed today
when I told them I didn't find out anything. I loved the show and I was amazed that
his fingers could 'fly' over the 12 strings! My husband has seen him before and is most
impressed! He is a guitar player himself.

To all:

Leo's "official" home page on the Private Music site is
now defunct. Private Music has apparently been amalgamated
with Windham Hill and they've taken down Leo's pages. Don't know
if or when they'll be back on-line. Until then, some of the links
from this site to Leo's official site are broken...
I'll get around to fixing them soon...
Also, re: Pete Olson's suggestion below that Rhino reissue
Leo's 12-String Blues and Circle Round the Sun,
I think that's a great idea! I'm also trying to get Leo's
management to recognize that a lot of you folks want to see
Leo on video...

I have been a fan of Leo since 6&12 String. I lost touch for a dozen years or so during musical brown out, but I'm back.
Absolutely Love the new stuff and I jumped for joy when I found this link! FYI, the "Official" web site / page is no longer available - but who cares?

Very nice site and loads of fans. Saw Leo and Iris
at the Michigan Theatre in Ann Arbor last night, April
23rd, and it was the best of the three times I have seen
him in concert. Played more 12 than the other two
concerts. Same wonderful, goofy tilt to his music and
his world. Been a long time fan. Can't wait for the
Rhino compliation.

I've been a Leohead since 73 and have a large collection of
tab for trade. Also a clean copy of 12 String Blues. Also of
interest is the fact that Bozo Podunavac is alive and well
and is building the best guitars of his career. His Kottke
12 is a cannon! Contact me for details.

Looking for a good copy of "12 String Blues." Will trade bootleg tapes/videos/or tab. Thanks in advance.

P.S. Perhaps we (the internet community of Kottke fans) should petition Rhino to buy the rights to "12 String Blues"
and "Circle 'Round the Sun" and release them on a single CD. Neither have made it to disk thus far. If not Rhino, then perhaps the
company that re-released "Kottke/Fahey/Lang." Webmaster- want to spearhead this idea?

In addition to Leo records, now CD's, I have found great music by the artists
he mentions in his concerts: Joe Pass, Fahey ofcourse, adn John Williams (no, the other one - classical
extraordinaire) - SKY.

Anyone have ohters that they have heard him mention?

Been a fan of Leo for 25 years now. I have most of his "old" albums on vinyl, hard to find his CDs in France. If anyone knows of a shop in Paris, tell me !!!
I'm also a fan of John Fahey, goes without saying, but I suspect there's about 5 of us in France, no more ...

Leo shared the stage with Iris DeMent last evening in Glenside,Pa. and in spite of pretty nasty cold and rainy weather, the audience was warm and receptive to these two incredible artists who put on a show at the Keswick Theatre, the likes which will never be seen again!.(of course, unless they return!)

Leo played in peak form! He kept the audience captivated with his incredible musicianship...and amused as well, with his bizarre stories and humorous wit, as only he can pull off!

An evening not soon to be forgotten and to be anticipated again, hopefully soon!

I have been a very big fan of Loe's since the first time I heard his guitar. I first
on Austin City Limits when I had no direction for my guitar playing. After watching
him play June Bug, Arms of Mary, Woody Wood Pecker's theme and Times Twelve I was never
same. Until I learned Times Twelve and William Powell for myself I didn't Know What real
fingerstyle guitar was.
I just bought tickets to his concert at the Capitol Theatre in Columbus, Ohio and have
been counting the days (13 left).

Next weekend I am going to my FIRST Leo concert (in St. Louis), and I am so excited! Not a day goes by that Leo cd's aren't playing in our house --- my husband, my two sons, and I are all FANS! (We're all making the journey to St. Louis.) I wish we could meet Leo for a drink after the concert!

To the owner of the page I offer my congratulations. Very well done. I first learned of Leo
in the early seventies with "My Feet Are Smiling" and had a few other albums until they were
destroyed in the early 80s when I was serving in Italy and a flood destroyed over 400 albums, including my Leo
Kottke prizes.

It has been over 15 years since I heard the songs from "My Feet are Smiling," and I was wondering if anyone
might confirm which songs were recorded with him alone on stage.

Also, I have stumbled across a PBS concert a few years back. If anyone knows what the title is, I'd like
to know so I can try and obtain a copy.

Thanks for you time.

I have been a Leo Kottke fan for quite some time. The first I heard Leo was
his "Ice Water" LP, and I was not really impressed. I had been
playing for about 3 years, and I seriously thought "I can do that, that
sounds SIMPLE!!!" Of course, I was 12 years old at the time, and it seemed
that EVERYTHING I heard sounded simple and easy to do; in fact, it sounded
so easy that I would be a real LOSER to try and play it. Only later, when I
had matured and realized that I was, most likely, a musical idiot, did I find
that Leo's music had a quality not unlike the healing power of God.

I have had the honor and priviledge of meeting Leo twice, once in Fort Worth
at the Caravan of Dreams, where he autographed my ticket stub, and my fiance and
I got to give him her address and a dinner invitation for the next time he was
in town. This meeting was a very pleasant meeting, where we got to see Leo at his
most relaxed and carefree, and were able to speak to him for about five minutes.
The second meeting was here in Tulsa, at Cain's Ballroom, and the security people
were so rude and pushy that I am surprised that Leo didn't use some of his
"Hand to Hand Combat" training on them!!!!!

As I alluded to previously, I do play, mostly around Tulsa -- mostly
doing coffee house gigs. I play a Seagull 6-string, and I recently
acquired the first Taylor LKSM (Leo Kottke Signature Model) 12-string
shipped to Tulsa (I know this because I went through the only Taylor
dealer in town, and this is the first one he has ever ordered). I do
attempt to play some of Leo's songs and arrangements, but I also write
my own songs as well. Trying to play Leo's music is like trying to
cram an elephant into a kitchen sink -- it can be done, but there's a
method and a trick to it. Having seen Leo play helps immensly, as I can
see where he is playing these marvelous things, but it is still a chore
for a mere mortal.

Oh, contrary to popular belief, Leo only has 10 fingers -- it just appears
as though he has 20.

Great Job! I stumbled across your site while "surfing" today. I thought that you might find the following supplemental to the historical info you are compiling about Leo. In 1966 I travelled to Minneapolis from Atlanta, Georgia. Somehow I ended up meeting a lot of nice folks attending the University. I crashed with them for awhile, played lots of music and eventually landed a more or less semi-permanent gig at the new Scholar Coffeehouse located across the river bridge from theU. The "old" scholar was located in Dinkytown and is where one young Robert Zimmerman (Bob Dylan) initiated his career (so I was told). Ibacked two different ladies back then. The first was named Kit (don"t reemember the last) but she had been the girlfriend of Scholar owner Mike (nice guy, but, I don"t remember his name either--hey! this was the 60"s... Anyway, the other lady I sang with was Pat Simonsen (her day job was as an airline stewardess with Northwest Airlines. She sounded a lot liuke Judy Collins but since she sang much of my material---she didn`t. I ended up living in a closet with 12 foot ceiling located just above the stage. Wow That part of the 60`s I just Deja-Vued on--incredible. People like Dave "snaker" Ray, "spider" John Koerner, and Tony "little sun"`Glover were regulars at the coffeehouse along with a little known guy, just out of the Navy who went by the name of Leo Kottke. To make a long story short , Leo ended up "headlining" the scholar for quite a while. I had the wonderfully great fortune to be able to hang out with Leo (Kit, Pat and I were the regular warm-up prior to Leo`s performances for much of late 1966 and early 1967. Although I had been giving guitar lessons at the Scholar during some days(Tony Glover gave some harmonica lessons there at the same time---I realyzed that Leo was destined for greatness!! He graciously shared what he knew of style with me and that is something that I still try to pass along. Leo, Mark Kimele (from Austin, Minnesota), and I would regularly go out after the Scholar closed and eat at the Embers. Once we watched the great Bluegrass legends --The Osborne brothers perform. I had to go into the service in february of 1967 and left my friend Leo to the destiny of becoming a legend as well. It couldn`t have happenned to a nicer guy. I ran into Leo once again at a club in Denver Colorado in 1973. He had several albums and a near "cult" following of musicians by then. I've not seen him since but would love to should the opportunity arise. I hope you found this story somewhat interesting-- let me know if I can help with anymore info. Oh, one more small item of interest--- Leo, in 1966, brought in a pair of high powered speakers to the Scholar. His experiment yielded a sound very similar to that of the "electrifying" Jimmy Hendrix---however, it did not go over well at the all acoustic Scholar (trust me-- it was GREAT!!) so , to my knowledge Leo never did it again.....

I've been a "Leo Kottke" fan since the first time I saw him on Nashville Now playing a song called "The Last Steam Engine Train". I play guitar myself and went crazy when I found that "Taylor" made a "Leo" SE-12 String. Had to have one Just Because. I went crazy again when I found this site. Anything about Leo on TV I'am waiting for it to start, Viedo loaded etc. I had a chance to see Leo,
Chet atkins, Albert Lee, and Lee Retnour, in Va. beach Va. a few years ago. There was a work shop before the show with a question and answer session. When I stepped up to the Mike I wasn't 10 ft away from Leo and Chet. I almost choked up. I ask Leo if there was anyway possible he could play "Last Steam Engine Train" at sometime during the evening. I then ask Chet if he would play "Windy and Warm" sometime during the evening. When the work shop ended each played one song to close out the work shop. Chet looked into the audience and said, I don't know where you are at but here you go, and played windy and warm. When it came to Leo he looked out in the audience and said where ever you're at here's your request but I'am gonna ask Chet to help me out. They both played Last Steam Eng Train. I will never forget that as long as I live. Thank You Both.

We saw Leo play at the Paramount Theater in Denver. Liona
Boyd opened. An all-around great show. About halfway through
Leo's set, he began to explain why he had this "black stuff"
all over his fingers. "New strings, they leave bronze all
over you. I wanted to disassociate myself from all this
black stuff. Just in case anyone had noticed it."
After the show, my wife and I got to talk with him briefly.
A genuine, almost shy guy who seems bemused that people are
interested in talking with him. My wife asked him to sign
the liner from her "Great Big Boy" CD. I asked him if I
could have some of that "black stuff" Leo smiled and shook
my hand.

Have been a Leo fan since 1979 when I quit playing electric and was introduced to acoustic by a friend while in the Navy. Only recently have I come close to understanding his playing.....and I still don't understand his playing. I learned 'Easter and the Sargasso Sea' from the '20th century masters book' and now that's all I seem to play....over and over and over. I met Leo in columbus, Ohio in about 1987 when he played at The Newport and we talked by the stage for 10 or 15 minutes. I was standing on the floor and he was sitting on the edge of the stage, patiently listening. I shook his hand, which seemed risky for him to do, and it was soft and not strong feeling as I thought it might be. I gave him my pocket knife as a gift. He accepted it humbly. Said 'thanks.'
Thank you Leo.

I first heard of Leo in March of 95'. I have always picked around on the guitar, but always felt as if I was getting nowhere. Anyway, on this cool March evening, my mother was flipping through the channels, and just happened to come across Leo's most recent Austin City Limits performance. While my girlfriend and I were sitting on the back porch, my mother quickly ran and told me that I MUST come and watch this guy play the guitar. I didn't feel like it at first, but figured might as well. The first second I saw the TV, my eyes just glued to his right hand. I was in such awe, that I didn't turn my eyes throughout the entire event. Since then I have collected 19 of his phenomenol CD's. But only if anyone could tell how to get a copy of Circle Round the Sun, and 12-string Blues, I would be most greatful. I have no e-mail address. This is my fathers computer, and he will sometimes let me fool around with this thing. Oh yeah, and for the guy who said that Leo needs to go back to his old style, and stop all this pyro-technics because it all sounds the same, well you might want to keep your mouth shut. I would like to see you write and perform like Leo... which is my point...YOU CAN'T!!! So why don't you just be greatful that there is someone like Leo to make all these fans happy. Thank you

Congratulations to the Route 6-12 Contest Winner:
Paul Simcoe

Paul is the lucky winner of a compilation of Leo's performances on programs such as Austin City Limits, Texas Connection and others.  Thanks to all those who entered the contest.

I've subsequently had several requests for "special orders" of the video and unfortunately I don't have the time to make copies for everyone.  However, I do hope to provide a "reader exchange" section where folks can connect with one another for this kind of thing.  Anyway, congrats again to Paul!

Greetings cyber Leo fans; have been a leophile since early 70's. I am a guitar player (own a Taylor 512 & 555) who fumbles around Leo's easier songs. Would appreciate any help/ advice on taking my playing to the next level. Hate to read tab but have a decent ear. Maybe swapping some tapes w/ advice or whatever. I have a signed 6&12 string (got it at Club Bene, a weird place but Leo says he loves the acoustics),& a Circle Round the Sun. Anyone interested in a swap for whatever Leo-wise can contact me. Thanx

Yesterday I sat down with my accountant for the annual 1040 visitation. As he went through my business expenses (I own a graphic design business), he spotted a miscellaneous entry that said "Leo Kottke tickets." He asked where he'd heard that name before. "Is he an acoustic guitarist?" he asked. I told him yes, one of the best, and he asked me to call him when I heard of his next show in NH. But a business deduction? Nope. Can't use it. Totally stunned! I've only bounced in cyberspace for about
2 months and this is the most fun I've had. It's refreshing
to find that there are people out there who won't say, "Leo
who?" when you mention this guy. My addiction started in '72
while playing with a partner. I can't sing a note (geese
farts don't begin to describe) so instrumental was for me.
Leo was inspiration. There was a small group of us (3 or 4)
who were big fans at U. of Ill. at Champaign who swapped licks
and helped each other figure stuff out. To this day the first
song I play when I pick up a guitar is "Ojo" followed closely by
"The Fisherman". Your site is great and I may have some material
to contribute such as photos, concert transcripts, or anecdotes.
Looking forward to my next visit and to future updates.

I remember reading the Rolling Stone Review of 6&12 Str. Gtr and thinking I ought to check this guy out as I had begun playing guitar about a year before. I soon forgot about it until I stumbled across "My Feet Are Smiling" in the cut-out section of my local store for $2.99. I was charmed, moved and completely flabbergasted when I listened to it and though I have enjoyed all of his subsequent work, this remains my personal favorite. I have seen LK many times over the years, but one performance sort of stands out for me and not so much for the gig itself ( they've ALL been great), but for the exiting comments by opening act Larry Coryell. Pretty exact quote: "I'd like to turn you over now to one of the greatest guitarist/composers of the 20th. Century, Mr. Leo Kottke!" I think that about sums it up. (And Coryell has been blasted throughout his career for lacking taste? Sounds like he's on the money in at least one area!

Not only did I finally find a site dedicated to the demigod

I stumbled on your web site when I looked up Hoyt Axton on
Altavista. I've been a fan of Hoyt's since 1965 and have all
of his music since '62. I am also a great fan of Leo's and
have been since I accidentally saw him in person in July,
1971 when he appeared at the Troubadour with Hoyt Axton (I
noticed a news clipping is in your site under "Leo in Print").
We used to go see Hoyt there many times and it was interesting
because usually Hoyt followed the first act by "Joe Blow" who
was usually pretty mediocre (although once we saw Jimmy
Buffett with Hoyt). So the audience was alway anxious to get
the first act over with, then see Hoyt do the real act.
Since we never heard of Leo Kottke back then, we were ready
for another boring first act, anxiously awaiting Hoyt's
performance. Leo got up on stage and immediately started
playing his guitar. Everyone started looking around and
saying to each other "Who is this guy??? He is REALLY good!!"
Needless to say, Leo's performance was just outstanding,
and with Hoyt following up with one of his great performances,
WHAT A NIGHT!!!!

Great web site! I've been a Kottke fan for years...He got me away from electric guitar and into acoustic. Unfortunately, I got back into electric for about 10 years. In the age of music TAB, I'm looking for some "Leo stuff". Any suggestion from anybody where to find it?

I just read the comments you guys wrote. Does anybody know if there is any songbook, tabs or music sheet available from Leo Kottke's music?
A few years ago, I picked up songs from 6/12 Strings Guitar, my feet are smilling, chewing pine and I did it by ear. I'd be most interested in
studying/playing some songs I could never figure out.
Thanks for any answer and thank again to Leo. (I saw him only once in Bonn - Germany- in 1979/80).

When are you appearing in Portland again. Saw you earlier this year at the Alladdin Theater. Enjoyed your music and was wondering how long you practice each day to stay on top of it. Thanks.

Thank you for this great site. I have been searching the
web for info on Leo and your site was exactly what I am
looking for. I have been attempting to play Mr. Kottke's
work for some years now (sometimes with success, most times
without). I heard "The Best Of" album in '88 and it inspired
me to "get busy" on my guitar. It was truely motivating to
hear the guitar played like he did. He has given me a
hobbie that without him, I would have not had. Thanks Leo

Kottke has had an incredible career and produced a number of fine albums. However, I think his writing has not changed at all in the last 10 years and he should be focusing more on the melodic type of material he did early on and cut back on the pyrotechnics; it all starts sounding the same. Sorry if this pisses anyone off. Leo obviously has nothing to apologize for; he has influenced more steel string players than anyone I would guess.

What a great site! I have collected all of Leo's recorded material on vinyl and CD plus some of the Austin City Limits FM simulcasts. I first started to see Leo play live at the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis(My Feet Are Smiling) and tried to catch every concert in the Twin Cities until I moved to California in '89. I always fantasized about being able to play his songs, but figured it was just impossible, so I never took up the guitar. But, about 3 years ago I suddenly got an irresistible bug to learn to play a 6/12 string and started the long tough road of daily practice. Even at my level, it is an absolute joy to be able to hear my own hands re-create some of Leo's songs. Learning them has brought much happiness to my life. God bless you Leo! I'd love to hear from other fans. I have a good collection of Leo TAB, and while I can't trade much of it, out of respect to the transcribers, I could help out with some passages that some may be stuck on. The best way to learn Leo's songs is to buy the publications of Mark Hanson and John Stropes. Mark Hanson conducts LK workshops all around the country, or hop a plane up to Portland and get a private lesson with him. The new Stropes TAB lessons of individual Leo songs will be a true gift to all players since they are vintage Leo classics and should be meticulously notated. As for recorded works, why doesn't Rhino Records re-master Circle Round The Sun or 6/12 String Blues??? Again, a great job on a page devoted to my #1 guitar hero!!!

I still remember hearing Kottke the very first time: I was lying on the floor of my freshman dormroom in 1974 listening to an album a friend put on by a guy I had never heard of. It was "Ice Water" (on vinyl) and it sent chills down my spine. (Well, maybe it was the linoleum floor.) I was blown away. Since then I have tried to see him play when ever he is within 100 miles of where I am. Listening to Leo's work on CD is a fantastic listening pleasure. Experiencing a live performance is truly awe inspiring. More often than not I return home after a show and wonder if I should even bother picking up my own guitar again. It's great that his earlier works are now re-released on CD, and I look forward to each new release. Thanks for a really nifty Web site, too.

I have been a fan of Leo's since my Junior year in high school. I was just learning to play the guitar at the time and heard one of his tunes on the radio. I spent the better part of 3 weeks working out that tune (The Fisherman) and have spent countless hours since working out his tunes. I had a chance to meet him backstage at a concert in St. Louis and was impressed by his upretentious, friendly character and his willingness to talk shop with me, an avid amateur. He is a great guy and an amazing guitarist.

I bought the Armadillo album when it first came out, just on the strength of the cover. Soon after, Leo was playing at the Quiet Knight in Chicago, and I went. Some odd stage hand couldn't figure out where to put the guitars, but I waited patiently while this young kid fumbled. Then he picked up one of them to play...

interested in getting live tapes, especially of the
recent show he put on at the Ordway Theatre in St. Paul,

appreciate it. Also, if you have a chance to get your
hands on it, do so. It was a phenomenal show.

Hi all,
I've been an ardent fan of Leo Kottke since around 1973
when my brother-in-law saw him play from about six feet away
in a tiny club in Chicago.
I've seen him live here in San Diego about seven times.
Enthralling every time.
The first time I heard him play "Side One Suite" I wanted
to seal up my ears because I knew I'd never hear any piece of
music more beautiful.
Thanks for all the happy moments, Leo.

To Mr. Bruce "Kottke" Head, congrats on such a well done site.
With out a doubt, a masterpiece and a plethora of information.
I first was introduced to Leo in the mid 70's. Have seen him
twice, once at Royce Hall @ UCLA, and, unbelievably, another time
down the street from where I used to live in Reseda, Ca. and not
nearly as well received, when I saw him at UCLA. His ability on
both 6 & 12 string guitars, is nothing short of genius. You
really can't copy his style. emulate maybe.
Thanks for the opportunity to comment on this page.

I've been listening to Leo since about 1975. Been to five or six shows, the latest at the Apple Farm festival in Elmer, New Jersey. If you ever read this, Leo, we'd love to take you to dinner (no performing necessary!) at any restaurant in Phila. (your choice). e-mail me next time you are in town and thanks for all the brilliant music. Would also like to chat with other fans. Thanks to those who maintain this site as well. This is really an impressive site, great work! I ran across
him for the first time when my brother Jeremy was playing
Up Tempo (he had the Essential Leo Kottke compilation album)
about two years back. I had picked up guitar shortly before
and just about started crying when Wood (that's what we call
Jeremy, I think it was his idea...) told me it was just one
guy. Nuts. But yeah, since then I've kicked a bad Floyd
habit and started amassing a Kottke collection (just snagged
"With Regards from Chuck Pink" this afternoon, could've, and
probably should have, gotten Mudlark, too, but college
budgetting effects...).

If anybody has tab for stuff off "My Feet are Smiling" it'd
be appreciated if they'd send it my way. (That album is
great.) I'd be interested in setting up a Kottke tab
resource on the web (tabulatures, essays on playing methods,
equipment, ect.) if I can find the tab for it, so if
you've got tab you'd like to donate, I'll put it up. As it
is this site is quite the resource already.

Great site,

The first time I heard Leo (spring of '96) he was singing "Louise" off Greenhouse. I got chills up and down my spine, went into a foggy haze and melted all over the floor. I have never in my life heard a voice that affected me like that. One either loves his voice or hates it--to me, his is the sexiest voice alive. Not a bad guitarist either ;^)
I've already seen Leo twice and have gotten his autograph. I said to him, "I love your voice; I don't care what anyone else thinks." And he said, "I kind of like it myself these days." A wonderfully eccentric, gentle, and appealing man, unique in his quiet, unassuming dignity.
Drop me an email, love to chat with other fans.

As an "old-timer" who has had the pleasure of seeing bands like "The Rolling Stones", "Pink Floyd", "The Doors", "Hendrix", "Wings", "REM"'s first tour, etc. etc. One thing I remember most is seeing Leo in the late '70s at the University of Kansas. I had NEVER heard anything about him nor heard one note of his music. I remember one thing - he came out and I didn't breathe for about 5 minutes. I had NEVER seen anything like it. And, being a guitar player since 1962, I thought it was time *I* took up the trombone...

If you ever read this LEO, I would like to say HI!! I am 19 years old and have been playing and listening to Kottke's music for the last 3 years, ever since I heard 6 & 12 string guitar. But I'm hoping that after I play enough of his stuff I'll find my own sound somewhere in there. I just wondering if any of you guys could help me out. I teach guitar at two music stores, and am saving every penning for a TAYLOR GUITAR. I live in Southern IL, where could I go to get a good selection of TAYLOR GUITARS, and even if I should buy a Taylor or not. Just wondering, Troy Brenningmeyer, IL

Just back from eight years in France and wanted to build back up some lost music. Haved looked in vain for "Burnt Lips", one of my preferred albums which unfortunately melted--long story. Well, there was something poetic in that. The Beat Goes On, after all. Can anybody direct me to where I might find this album on CD? You have done fine work in putting together this info. Clear. Comprehensive. (My first time on this internet thing. Is anybody out there?)

Hi!
I don't know who I'm writing to! Anyway I've seen Leo play in Sweden, I think, most of the times he's been here. The last time was a very long time ago. Is he coming back (soon) ? I hope so. These days it's even hard his new records here. Will there be a new one out soon?
